Enjoy the independent research project
through experiencing fisherman’s work

“Fisherman's JOB ~ summer vacation independent research project ~” is a program for you to experience fisherman’s works from going fishing early in the morning to selling the fish caught to the market with the cooperation of active fishermen in Atami. Complete your independent research project by summarizing your experience. You will experience the fisherman’s works following the basic three steps of independent research: “prepare, experience, and summarize.” This event finishes all three steps. After joining it, you can complete your independent research.

Experiencing fisherman’s work with a fisherman of Atami

Let’s wake up early, put on the waterproof salopette like a fisherman, and leave the hotel. Let’s challenge “gill-net fishing”, catching fish by drawing a 300-meter-long net. The net heavy and hard to pull up. Participants have to cooperate and pull hard. The harder you work, the more pleasure you get. Ask the fisherman about the name and characteristics of the fish you caught once you catch it. After gillnetting, there will be a “big catch flag,” with RISONARE Atami original design of the famous fireworks and citrus of Atami, raised to inform the port of a big catch.

After fishing, let’s go to the market to wholesale the fish caught. At the market, you may see the moment when the fish you caught is actually auctioned off. It is a valuable opportunity to experience a part of the fish distribution.

To transfer your work experience to an independent research project Step1: “Study” for fishing (prepare)

After check-in, we will use the "SUISUI worksheet" originally created by RISONARE Atami to “prepare.” Let’s think about your research topic with the staff for the next day's fishing experience, such as "fisherman's daily schedule" or "how to fish".

Step2: experience and compare with what you assume (experience)

Experience fisherman’s works and compare them with the predictions you made during the preparation phase. Deepen your knowledge by asking the fisherman or marketers whenever you have questions that you can’t answer by the experience. Besides, you may formally interview the fisherman in a relaxing atmosphere during the barbecue after fish wholesale at the market.

Step3: complete the SUISUI worksheet (summarize)

After returning to the hotel, write down what you have learned and your thoughts about the fisherman experience on the SUISUI worksheet, paste a picture of the fisherman work experience taken by the accompanying staff. You complete your independent research project.
