The gift from the sea and the variety from the forest, and in between is the people’s work – exhibiting the original charms of Atami in many forms
As the “window” to look into all the charms of Atami like the rich variety of nature, all exhibits are presented in the form of framed window called “NATURE WINDOW.” At the sea and forest exhibitions, you can find out about Atami’s charms deeply, and there are also experiential exhibits that fulfill the curiosity of the visitors. * Designed by Nippon Design Center Daikoku Design Institute
A “Sea Exhibition” showing fish faces, graphic designs of sea slugs, acrylic specimens of fishes, and a collection of various fishing hooks, etc. There is also an experiential corner (Hands-on Gallery) where you can hold the exhibits to feel their texture, weight, smell, etc, and a Shells Hands-on Box (with the real shells from Atami’s turban shells, abalone, etc) is also available. Also check out the Nature Window of the beautiful dried seaweed specimens that are unique to Atami, where the richest varieties of seaweeds (about 400 kinds) are found in Japan.
Using the trunk of camphorwood grown in Risonare Atami’s symbolic Elevated Forest Base – Kusu Kusu, where the Tree House is also located, to make pastel drawings, woodblock drawings using round slices of the annual rings, real pressed leaves from Kusu Kusu Forest, the graphic designs of sea gull, blue rock thrush, and citrus, etc. There is also a Hands-on Box for the Izu Nine Trees (9 types of symbolic trees of Izu: camphor, cypress, elm, oak, cedar, pine, fir, Sawara cypress, hemlock). Other exhibits include various scenic photos of different places in Atami, 4 poems about Atami, etc.
